Will you go on wondering about its strategic location or how the place is in real terms? But is a nice hill station! Before you innumerable people have already visited Ranikhet and got enchanted by its sylvan surroundings. Believe it or not it is an ideal place for spending a week or two in the lap of the vistas of the Himalayas along with ancient temples, picturesque picnic spots, splendid strolls and also the exciting treks. Its ideal height is at 1824 m above sea level and is located in the northern Indian state of Uttaranchal. Near to it are the famous tourist places of Nainital at a distance of 59 km and Almora at a distance of 50 km.

But why this special name has been rendered to this place? According to the legends, this name owes its origin to Rani Padmini, queen of Raja Sukherdev, the local ruler who was dumfounded by the beauty of the place. It must had happened since Ranikhet is a nature lover's paradise. One can visit to many places but surely the inexplicable panoramic view of the Western Himalayas in Ranikhet is going to have an eternal position within a tourist. While at Ranikhet you may also enjoy the excellent view of the great Himalayan peak of Nanda Devi that stands 7816 m above sea level. Par from this there are quite a lot of spectacular treks from Ranikhet that the adventure tourists at the hill resort crave for. The treks to Kausani, Dunagiri and Sitalakhet pass through interesting terrain. Another tourist destination in Ranikhet is the artificial lake of Bhaludham.
Moreover, Upat Kalika, which is at 4 km north of Ranikhet and on the main road to Almora, proffers panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges and has a nine-hole golf course, which also attracts many people like me.

Though there is the existence of a pleasant weather throughout the year but if you are adventurous and prefer to feel the cold season in a hill resort, then the best season is the winter. Again it is easily accessible. The excellent road network connects Ranikhet with other important cities and the nearest railhead for Ranikhet is Kathgodam, at a distance of 84 km. Even the bus service to Nainital, Almora, Kathgodam, and Kausani is frequent. In terms of accommodation there are many hotels that cater to the needs of the tourists in Ranikhet.
