The gift shops near the Visitors Centre at Auroville offer a charming selection of handicrafts. These are made by the residents of the township and are a source of income to sustain the project. Here one can pick up perfumed candles, incense, pottery, beautiful hand made paper, fine cotton...

I decided to take a peek into the chamber of humility. The experience was surreal. One enters an air-conditioned, oval or egg shaped chamber with a symbol on one wall. An eerie glow emanates from behind the symbol. One sits on cushions scattered across the floor and contemplates. No...

It was inaugurated on 28th February 1968, when youth from 124 countries and all Indian states placed handful of earth brought from their homelands in a marble urn in middle of the amphitheatre near Matrimandir, at the centre of Auroville. This symbolized the creation of a city dedicated to human...

Established in 1983, this century-old heritage building is the youngest museum in the country. The museum basically deals with Indian culture, Tamil rulers and the specific history of Pondicherry. There are a few Hindu artefacts as well, and some idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses.

The Statue of Dupleix in Pondicherry sort of reminds you that it was once a French colony. Joseph Francoise Dupleix was once the Governor General in trying to consolidate French supremacy, at least in some parts of India. The Statue of Dupleix in Pondicherry was commissioned by France in 1870....
