As South East as Possible 4 stars
Travel Tip: Trat

Only in recent years have the islands off the south east coast of Thailand found their way into the travel guide books and most of the writings have been about Koh Chang. Quite easy to get to from... [more]

The Banpu Resort & Spa 4 stars
Hotel Review: Banpu Resort & Spa hotel Trat

Set in an area of Mangrove Forest in Thailand’s Eastern Seaboard Province of Trat, The Banpu Resort & Spa became my home for a couple of days whilst I explored the area. Trat is a place which is... [more]

Treehouse 5 stars
Travel Tip: Trat

Have you been dreaming of a private bungalow with a hammock on the beach for 100baht? It's possible and more at the rustic, but amazingly comfortable, Treehouse on Lonely Beach in Koh Chang. All the lodges are made out of wood, including the reception-cum-bar-cum-restaurant which reaches out over... [more]

Trat to Bangkok 4 stars

Once in Trat town I managed to book the bus back to Bangkok with ease which gave me time to have lunch in the town and muse around some of the shops before heading back to capital. Trat bus station is actually quite busy as it seems there are quite a few people doing the same thing, namely having... [more]

On my third evening I had another early night, as I felt quite exhausted with the heat. I also planned to make a morning departure. Upon awakening and checking out of my hotel, I managed to get a tuk tuk to the port with ease (no ice cream trike needed!). The boat trip promptly got me back to the... [more]

On my third day I took the bike out a bit further a field. I ended up at Koh Prak Nok which is the site of a major new resort, and it is nestled on a very steep slope that hugs the coastline. This place is set into a semi circular cove with 2 beautiful islands just nicely placed in it. Its quite... [more]

Koh Chang by motorbike 4 stars

I rented a motorbike and took the road down towards the Koh Bai Lan Beach , some 8km away. On the way I passed the turn off for the inland waterfall at Klong Pru, but didn’t visit on that afternoon. There were some very nice resorts along this stretch and I even kept in mind some of them as... [more]

I promptly paid the motorcycle driver and took off on foot. The main road stretches from Sai Khao Beach all the way to Kai Bae Beach, and whilst this is a long walk of about 6km, I was already half way along this road when I started on foot. I checked out a few of the hotels in the area, but... [more]

A cunning plan! 4 stars

Actually,. erm, no. I tried to flag down the tour bus but it wouldn't stop. Of course it was too much to expect. It was hell bent on getting its paying passengers to the boat and barely saw me trying to wave it down. It was my last chance – I knew I couldn’t walk 5km is 30 minutes and so I... [more]

Getting to the Port 4 stars
Trat Chapter of Travel Blog: My adventurous trip to Koh Chang Island, Thailand

I knew that the last boat to leave Laem Ngop for Koh Chang Island left the port at 4pm This allows the boat owners to do one last return trip before it starts to get dark. I felt that I had left Bangkok with plenty of time to spare. Some 5 hours later at around 3pm I was able to stop the bus... [more]

Pattaya’s Crocodile Farm 4 stars
Travel Tip: Trat
Part of Topic Bangkok

Pattaya’s Crocodile farm is quite an attraction as it seems to employ the maddest crocodile handlers that you will see. Actually, I went there because it is a great way to see crocodiles in their “semi”-natural environment, but in the end the crocodile shows are what attracts most of the... [more]

Koh Chang Fishing Trip 4 stars

Once in the middle of the bay, the boat operators handed out fishing lines and I spent an hour or so fishing, but unfortunately didn’t catch anything. Actually, come to think of it, I didn’t see anyone else catch a fish either! After a bite of lunch onboard, the boat headed to one side of the... [more]

Finding a nice hotel 5 stars
Trat Chapter of Travel Blog: My adventurous trip to Koh Chang Island, Thailand

The next task on my itinerary was to secure a hotel for my stay. Of course all of the people on the tour had the hotel included in the price they paid, and so they had no problem with having to look around. But I like to try to get a better deal, and I also like to look at the hotels wherever... [more]

Not knowing how this was going to turn out I waited for about 20 minutes on the corner for a taxi, fully expecting that one would appear at any moment. But by 3:20pm it was starting to dawn on me that I might well be stuck there. I was also mindful of the fact that the boat could even leave... [more]

Trat province lies about 5 hours drive from Bangkok, and it is quite a straight route utilizing the large 6 lane Sukhumvit Highway. Koh Chang Island is reached by ferry from a small town on the coast called Laem Ngop, and this town happens to be located about 30km before arriving at Trat town. I... [more]
