San Gimignano
San Gimignano is one of the most famous hilltop towns in Italy. Probably that is because of its characteristic towers – in the Middle Ages the families in this town erected specific stone towers which were a sign of their wealth and respect. Nowadays there are about 20 towers, all of them square stone towers without windows. These towers made the view towards the city amazing. The whole town wall of this town is still standing.
