Santa Cruz de la Palma Travel Tips

Insider advice for your Santa Cruz de la Palma vacation , La Palma , La Palma

Santa Cruz de La Palma town walk 3 stars
Santa Cruz although the capital of La Isla Bonita is a very small but picturesque town. I really loved the promenade with views of Tenerife Island and the Teide rising above the clouds. It´s a view you´ll often see from this side of the Island. The houses by the promenade with wooden balconies and bright colours gave it a Cuban look. There is not much to do around but it´s nice for a stroll by the town streets. There are nice terrace-cafés in small squares with wooden balconies and flowers. Really charming. My friend loved a bakery where the gave you the best doughnuts , not a sweet tooth myself but I had to agree. We went back there everyday. The shops are a haven for those who like typical embroidery.

Roque de los Muchachos, La Palma 4 stars
We drove north from Santa Cruz towards Roque de los Muchachos. Driving in this island is a pleasure as most of drivers are tourists so you can pretty much stop anywhere for shots. As you go higher the views of the sea and Tenerife island become even nicer. As you arrive near the Observatory the view of La Caldera de Taburiente National Park is really stunning. With that typicall peculiarity of La Palma , clouds underneath the mountain top. Absolutely spectacular! Roque de los Muchachos is almost 3000 metres above see level so the altitude makes it really cold. Make sure you take a nice coat with you. I went there in early January and there was a little bit of ice and snow around. Watch out for rocks in the middle of the road. We had to stop a few times to remove them..
