Insider advice for your Shek O Village vacation

Escape from Hong Kong City 4 stars
If you’re tired of the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong, take a trip out to Shek O – a pretty little village with a great beach that’s just a short bus ride out of the city.

The beach is clean, wide and long and the sea is clear (though cold on my visit in early April – that didn’t stop people swimming although I wasn’t brave enough!)

The local amenities are good – changing rooms for the shy and alert-looking life guards as well as a handful of shops selling the usual beach paraphernalia and a number of restaurants catering to the day trippers.

The only downside is the recorded message that broadcasts over the loud speakers every so often reminding sunbathers that dogs, ball games and Frisbees are not allowed on the beach. Although no one said anything to my friends and I when we had a game of Frisbee (we didn’t know it was banned at this point!)

Even if you’re only in Hong Kong for a couple of days, Shek O’s accessibility makes it a definite must even if only for a couple of hours break from the shops and skyscrapers of the metropolis.
