Split - Roman city by the sea
Split is a town with a long history and it would be pretty damn hard to oversee that fact. All of downtown is basically a field trip in ancient history, the Roman palace dominates everything. It is a beautiful town well equipped for tourists and though this shows by their numbers Split is still much less crowded than Dubrovnik further to the south. Palm trees, a harbor promenade and stunning architecture surely make it well worth the visit. It is a good starting point for travelling on to the Adriatic islands and further down the coast. Busses depart about 10 times a day from Zagreb and from Dubrovnik, ferries go to Hvar and Korcula (beware that out of season they might not go every day). [more] |
