Resorts-Rich Tuaran
If you want to be spoiled with choices of resorts, go to Tuaran, a district 45mins from Kota Kinabalu city. I love Tuaran because of this. Some 5-star resorts include the Nexus Karambunai Resort, the Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort and the Sabandar Bay Resort, which line the Tuaran and adjacent Karambunai beaches. Smaller but equally lovely resorts such as the Tanjung Badak Resort and the Borneo Kelly’s Bay are also here. Unfortunately, there is no direct bus from the KK city to these beaches. You need to take a bus from the city to the Tuaran town first. Fare is RM4 (US$1 = RM3.25). From Tuaran town, you need to take a pirate minibus or taxi (sorry, no bona fide ones).
