Udaipur - Lake Pichola 4 stars

Another recommendation in Udaipur would be a boat trip on LAKE PICHOLA. Boats leave hourly from inside the city palace grounds. Alternatively you can make you own way to the waters edge (not in the palace) and negotiate your own deal. This is what we did and it worked out much cheaper.

I absolutely loved the MONSOON PALACE even though it was a decrepid, crumbling builing that is more reamins than palace.

I just found it very atmospheric and it's in a great location overlooking the city.

If you can time it right, hire a tuk tuk from town and head up...

If you get a chnace, definitely find one of the many cafe's showing 'Octapussy' and have your dinner watching the bond movie. It was fimled in Udaipur so it is a fitting place to see it. I hadn't realised what a funny film it is. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Loads of places advertise...

I don't want to say you shouldn't go somewhere but what I would say about City Palace is that it isn't desperately stunning or interesting and it is also relatively pricey compared to other sights in India.

If you are traveling around Rajasthan then I would recommend you save your...

If you've been traveling in India for a while, you will already know by now that it is hard to find good coffee (apart from big cities with western outlets).

My little find in Udaipur was CAFE NAMASTE in Hotel Gangaur. This is the place to head if you need a good caffeine fix -...

Unfortunately there are a lot of scams going on in India, each area seems to have it's own system going on. In Udaipur it's all centred around art. People will ask where you're from and pretend they've had a recent exhibition there. The idea is to entice you into a shop where they'll get paid a... [more]

There are a million and one places to have clothes made in Udaipur. I went to DESERT HANDICRAFT EMPORIUM on Katchari Rd, near Gandhi Chowk T: 02992-250062.

The owner is a real joker (unfortunately I can't remember his name) and can rustle up just about anything you request. He is...
