My previous blogs are testament to the fact that us Brits love to whinge. Granted, there’s a lot about our soggy underdog of a nation that invites a good old moan, but I’m surprised at how so many of us maintain this glass half-empty attitude even when abroad on holiday.

Being a ski rep isn't exactly hard graft. My sister gets a measly £86 a week but doesn't have to worry about rent or bills. Most nights she scrounges free food off the chalet maids, who by contrast have to cook three-course meals every evening, including home-made cakes. Even booze is... [more]

Woke up perched in a prawn-like position at the end of the bed by Tom's feet, still wearing all my clothes, make-up and contact lenses. Yeuch.

Later on, we booked a restaurant called Le Lodge and bagged the last available table. It’s often chocabloc this one, and it’s easy to see why. The lighting is subdued, almost womblike, thanks to the coloured glass candle-holders on every table. Food strays from the usual confit de canard... [more]

We woke up at 3.50am with little idea of what the day had in store for us.

On the way to the airport in the cab, my boyfriend Tom realised he’d forgotten his driving license – a small snag as we had to drive a hire car from Turin airport to Val D’Isere...
