With its strategic location, La Union has grown to be a busy commercial hub in the Ilocos region. Aside from being a center of trade, the region has also been a favorite for religious pilgrimages. The Agoo Apparition Site in San Antonio has grown to be increasingly popular to Marian devotees. The province is not most known for its religion, though. Its coast is definitely the most visited destination as it is a thriving location for water sports. During the November to February season, the surf in Monaliza in Urbiztondo, San Juan is the ideal destination to catch some good waves, aside from sites in Carlatan and Wallace in San Fernando.
