Wells – the smallest city in the United Kingdom
Wells is the smallest cathedral city in the Mendip district of Somerset. The city has only 10,000 residents and is very beautiful and quaint in appearance. Wells is an architectural highlight of Britain. The cathedral with its gothic carvings is awe inspiring and Vicars Close, a 14th century street adjoining the cathedral, is a pleasure to explore. The name Wells is derived from the fresh water wells, which rise up in the gardens of the Bishops Palace, the medieval moated home of the Bishop of Wells and Somerset.
