Stone Town, Zanzibar
Stone Town is eclectic. From the architecture, which ranges from Moorish crenellations to island style lean-to’s, it has everything. Crumbling splendour, I suppose. It’s hot and crazy, with markets and restaurants shops and the beach right there. This is one seaside town where you don’t feel like you’re anywhere near the sea. Everything seemed to be geared very much towards tourists, or to be inaccessible. We spent the day being followed round by men with baskets of cashews, trying to make a sale.
