Sun Moon Lake: Xuanzang Temple
Another worthwhile stop on the Sun Moon Lake circuit. The temple is devoted to XuanZang, the Chinese monk who journeyed on foot to India to bring Buddhist scriptures to the East. This has given rise to the fabled 'Journey to the West' featuring the Monkey King, an epic that is sort of like 'The Odyssey' for Chinese culture, only with more laughs. There's a glass encased statue of XuanZang as well as what appears to be Sakyamuni's kidney stones. My Taiwanese wasn't good enough to understand the nuns.
