Paris - Lets Begin Siteseeing 1 4 stars
We are off to Paris Wow!!! One of the most romantic cities in the world from London, leaving Victoria Coach Station with Eurolines Coach Service, departing at various times throughout the day and evening a journey of 6-8hrs. The morning coach is usually less hours. A long journey for some but the view, pretty picture sites of the countryside, small towns along the way are memorable and worth the wait of arrival. We cross over from Dover to Calais for a couple of hrs and we are back on the coach from Calais direct to Gare Du Nord Coach station in Paris. The Metro station is directly in front of the coach station to continue to your destination in our case Pigalle to our hotel!!!
There is a taxi service available if you prefer.
If you are in Normandy though, you can get to Paris by branching off to Lisieux another small town in Normandy, directions there are sign posted if you are driving. Once you are there, head straight to the train station to buy your ticket, which is easy to find. The journey takes about 2hrs and you will arrive at Gare Saint Lazare write in the centre of Paris and you can walk your destination. We are here and ready to explore. Pigalle is close to the city centre and a 20 minute walk up to the famous Mont Martre as we are on our way up to the top, there are many exhibits of art work and other, from the talented Parisians as well as an amusement park for the children ,a place to sit, eat, admire the surroundings before you climb up. We are heading to the top where the great church building is the first site. The views over Paris are spectacular where you can see "as far as the eye can see". Im gazing across this wonderful city then suddenly! I am awakened, swaying from side to side by "doe ray me far so la tee doe"!, turning round to the drum, bass, trumphet, saxaphone, guitar the playing of tambourines, Yes! its music a band ! A Jazz Band, in front of the church, which gathers everyone around clapping and cheering, I can't help a skip, hop and jump to the next corner leading to a row of shops with all the goodies you can think of to take home for the family , not forgetting my camera to capture those special moments.Walking further down we come to the head statue of Dalida, where her beautiful face looks out for all to remember her and her wonderful music. There are many historic places up here most are sign posted with plaques ,giving a brief outline of their related stories to the history of Mont Martre.
Be prepared for the best sites up here. Its summer, you will need your hat, your best walking shoes , your camera, not forgetting a bottle of water as you will be thirsty along the way! In the winter you will need your big coat, good warm walking boots and a flask of soup!!
Thinking of soup Im starving, I need to get back for my lunch and will be back to continue to the next site, Im sure you can guess where that will be!.........later...
