Some attractions
I lived in New Orleans for many years, and it's where my family's originally from. Baton Rouge is where the family reunion is held every couple of years. It has a water park, Blue Bayou, that is decent, and an amusement park called Fun Fair. Traffic can be a pain, but at least they're pretty easy to find. It's also the home of Lousiana State University, and so it has a tiger on premises, that being the mascot of said university. Other than that, unless you're a resident or a history buff, Baton Rouge is pretty boring in my opinion. Of course, that could also be as compared to New Orleans, which is about two hours away.

I go to Baton Rouge once every few years because my aunt and uncle live there. I was there this past summer for my cousin’s wedding, so I did not stay in a hotel. Baton Rouge has experienced a vast population boom due to Hurricane Katrina. Many who lost their homes evacuated to Baton Rouge. Due to this fact, there is a lot of construction currently happening there. Road work is everywhere to accommodate the new influx of traffic. Tensions are high in some parts of the city as well, as people are on edge getting used to a new home or new residents. But overall, it is a lovely city. It has a nice museum and downtown area. There are plenty of unique restaurants where you can enjoy southern food and this is by far a great place to go if you love southern seafood. Shellfish, shellfish, shellfish. That’s what you’ll find in Baton Rouge. The weather is very muggy, but the city does a great job at attempting to keep the mosquito population down, and I was quite comfortable there. This is another one of those cities where it is best to visit if you can go with an insider or longtime resident of the city. They can take you to the best local spots and prevent you from wasting your time.
