Climb Up Tumbledown Mountain
Tumbledown Mountain is a remote mountain in central Maine that can be found near the town of Weld, Maine. The peak is 3.090 feet high, but many climbers choose to relax and swim at Tumbledown Pond, which sits on a large rocky plateau, located several hundred feet below the summit. The climb encompasses about 2,000 feet of altitude gain. This is not the most rugged climb in Maine, but the view and the pond, which is swimmable, make this hike one of the most enjoyable and popular in the state. The trailhead can be a bit hard to find, so bring along a Maine Atlas to help locate the exact route. To find the trailhead, first head to Weld Village and then to Weld Corners. About a half-mile out of Weld Corners, there is a logging road, called Byron Rd., which will lead you to any one of the several trailheads.
