Rockin' Red Rock

Visitors to the casino capital of Las Vegas may not be aware that there are a variety of natural phenomena not a long distance from the roulette wheels and blackjack tables. I was fortunate enough to take a drive to Red Rock Canyon, about 13± miles from Vegas. What a change from the strip of neon signs and congested roads. Heading out of town on Charleston Boulevard we crossed “the Strip” then continued on about 13 miles to Highway 159 (Blue Diamond Road) to the foothills. The entrance fee to the park is $5.00 per vehicle (as of 2008). There are good roads, you don't need a jeep. Beautiful scenery-nature at its austere best.
