Driving Etiquette - Watch Out for Cattle
Harney County has an open range policy, and your travels could be slowed by a group on horseback moving their herd from one range to another. Be courteous and patient and keep driving slowly, even if you are going in the same direction as the cattle drive. Do not honk your horn! Most of the ranchers are very considerate and if they are on the road itself, they will usually move the herd to one side to allow you to pass. It can take a bit, so be patient, drive slowly, and keep an eye out for the calves that might jump out in front of you. Also keep an eye out for stray cows on the road.
