Diamond - General Information
Diamond was settled in 1874-75 and is said to have been named after the brand used by a local rancher, Mace McCoy. It is located about 52 miles from Burns and is one of the many small communities in Harney County. The town consists of the Pete French Round Barn, the Round Barn Visitor's Center, the Hotel Diamond, the Diamond Craters, a community building, a few residences, and a school. The local school is a grade school only (kindergarten through 8th grades). High school students from Diamond board at the public school in Crane.
