Karni Mata Temple
This temple more commonly known as “The Rat Temple” was the highlight of India for me. Followers of the Hindu goddess Durga come worship here but so too it seems do thousands of rats. The Hindus believe that the rats are reincarnation of the male descendants of Durga’s followers. The rats are fed Ghee and bread and scurry all around your feet and in fact almost all over you. Seeing as these rats are thought to be the reincarnations of musicians music is played for them by local bands throughout the day.
