Bridge Day
It's not every day that you can see hundreds of people flinging themselves off of an 876-feet-tall bridge. In fact, it's just one day a year at the New River Gorge. The 2008 Bridge Day is Oct. 18. If you want to spend a day soaking in an atmosphere charged with just plain fun and thrill seeking, you gotta go. Experienced BASE jumpers parachute off the bridge, rappelling teams rap down special ropes, and rafters and rock climbers view the whole event from their own perches. The bridge is closed to traffic and is replaced by a carnival atmosphere and thousands of onlookers leaning over the rail. [more] |
