New Orleans New Orleans was a big surprise to me, especially after the long trip I was making from coast to coast. New Orleans came to me as a surprise thanks to the fact that its aspect was completely different from all the other American cities I had seen. Just to walk around in the city centre passing through all the Voodoo shops and the sex shops is an experience I had never imagined to have in the United States. I really liked it and I just wanted more, so I had to stay for few days longer in order to really get to know the city. I think of New Orleans as a very cultural open minded place. [more]

New Orleans I came to New Orleans in December 2006, and didn’t know anything about the city apart from what I had seen on television after Katrina. I was surprised that in most areas you don’t see anything from Katrina – just another american city. The french quarter is beautiful with the iron works and the flowers everywhere, and I loved the Mississippi with the steam boats – it felt like in Huckleberry Finn! Other parts of the city look devastating – empty, dirty, deserted – areas that were really badly hit and where it is not possible for people to come back because no one lives there anymore. It is sad to see, but on the other side I saw a lot of hope; people building up what they had lost, new buildings, shops, people coming back… we will see what future brings New Orleans – the city of Jazz… [more]
