Just how you'd always dreamed it would be...
Akin to our most elaborate bed and breakfast fantasies, Berkeley's Rose Garden Inn surely delivers from well-groomed hedges in the front yard to smashingly decorated rooms well stocked in bright floral patterns from curtains to bedspread! The decor is further embellished with plastic garden accents, such as little bambis sprinkled about the property, a trellis here or there, and white rose-patterned tables and chairs on the back patio where you can sip weak coffee and read the paper in the morning. If you're into kitsch, than this is definitely the place for you to stay.
The prices CAN tend to be a bit expensive, but the classic look of overdone "country home" decor--further completed by old granny clocks and high backed puffy chairs in the foyer, plus a guest book--and the friendly clean service at the place make it a repeat holiday residence for those I know who like to frequent the bay area.
Also, it is located on Telegraph avenue, and is therefore a short, pleasant walk down the boulevard to reach the historic strip of shops and grungy/ eccentric street kids leading up to the university. [more ]
