Grand Rapids' former Pantlind Hotel The Amway Grand Plaza Hotel is easily West Michigan’s finest, not to mention most well-known, hotel. The hotel comprises a tower completed in 1981 as a major addition to the former Pantlind Hotel. The tower is an elegant modern structure designed by a local architect and prominently positioned along the edge of the Grand River. The hotel is likely the most common subject for postcards of Grand Rapids. The hotel also boasts Michigan’s only five-star restaurant. The main hall in the old Pantlind section of the hotel is an extraordinary example of the city’s turn of the century extravagance and showmanship. I love walking around this area. However, for me it seems better to have a room in the new addition as the higher up one’s room is the better the view of the city, though with the quality of the hotel any room will be nice. The hotel is centrally located in downtown Grand Rapids and has a variety of restaurants and even a few small shops. [more]
