Amethyst Lodge, Jasper, Alberta This is a tip provided by a former employee of this hotel. The Amethyst Lodge, part of the Mountain Parks Lodges, is one the easiest lodges to get to in Jasper, Alberta, as it is located on Connaught Drive (the main drive through the town of Jasper) practically dead center in the middle of town. It is a nice, self-respecting, hotel but pretty basic. It is for the type of destination-traveler where the hotel is not so important so long as it is clean, safe, and the staff are congenial, which is what you can expect here. When you are making your booking be sure to mention if you have any senior's in the room, because you will get a discount. They will not give it to you unless you ask. Also, when making your reservation, request a room that faces EAST and on the second floor. They will not guarantee your request but it will be taken into consideration. If and only if that is not available, state that you want to face NORTH or SOUTH. The reason for this is your view. The rooms that face WEST totally suck in terms of view because you will be facing a back alley and the houses of the local residents. Facing east or north or south is best for mountain views from the second floor. The first floor views are just write-offs. Trust me, I used to housekeep at this hotel and I know tons about the views from the rooms. [more]
