Washington D.C.
Washington D.C. One of the must see places in the United states is Washington D.C. It is the backbone of our history. There is so much to see and do that it is impossible to see everything in one trip. I can only give you my favorites. The easiest way to get around D.C. is by metro so when you make your hotel reservations try to stay near one of the metro stations. Many of the stations have shopping and restaurants in them so walking to your train is always a pleasant experience. Almost all the tours and trams start by Union Station. On your first day there, take the Old Town Trolley tour. This is a wonderful introduction to the city. You can purchase your tickets at any of the nineteen stops that it makes. The trolley allows you to get on and off as many times as you want, with free re-boarding. It will take you to places such as The capital, The Smithsonian, Lincoln Memorial, White house, Thee National Zoo and Chinatown. Stop for awhile at union station. Try a milkshake at the Johnny Rockets there. A fun tour is called The D.C. ducks. You climb aboard a World war II amphibious vehicle that drives you past some of the more famous sites of Washington D.C. It then heads to the Potomac River where it drives straight into the water. Your tour continues cruising down the Potomac River. The tour is about ninety minutes long and only runs during the summer months. Two more tours that I recommend were full day tours that visited the area around D.C. The first tour goes to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It includes a tour of the town, cemetery ridge and the actual Battlefields. Lunch is included and the tour leaves from Union Station. The second tour that I recommend goes to Colonial Williamsburg. It also leaves from union Station and is a full day tour. Williamsburg still remains a colonial town and takes you back to what the United states was like in the 1700’s. Washington D.C. some fantastic restaurants. Ruth Chris Steak House is known for the different cuts of steak that it serves. There are six different cuts served there. Each one tastes great. Save room for the desserts served there. Try both the Apple Crumb Tart and the Caramelized Banana Crème Pie. You won’t be disappointed. Another new restaurant is called City Zen. It is very expensive but the food is fantastic and it is ranked as one of the hottest new restaurants. Call ahead for reservations. Les Halles is a good French restaurant. It serves a delicious steak au poivrre with frites. It is a medium price restaurant. All the malls and most metro stations have inexpensive places to eat. It is hot and muggy in Washington D.C. during the summer and cold during the winter. Spring is beautiful there with the cherry blossom trees in bloom. The fall is also a nice time to visit with cool temperatures and lots of sunshine. [more] |
