I know I just recently praised Bar Pitti, but I also have to give
props to its East Side cousin, Frank (88 Second Avenue near 5th
Street). Picture every Italian movie (from Moonstruck to Goodfellas to
Bicycle Thieves) rolled up, diced, placed in a food processor with
tomatoes and garlic, pureed until a fine sauce, boiled, and spread out
and you basically have this restaurant. Cheap, busy, and funky, you'll
be fighting against the entire East Village to get in on the meat
loaf, bruschetta, and pasta, but it's completely worth it. [more]
