Best Breakfast in Europe Hotel breakfasts are terrible in most places. The French have no concept of breakfast, the Italians get so wired on espresso you want to shoot to the moon, the Spanish eat sweet sticky buns, the Dutch have mushy bread that crumbles if you toast it, the Germans have an excellent breakfast because the best bread in Europe is made there. So where else can I satisfy my crying need at 7.30am outside of Germany? Hotel Basel right smack dab in the center, a block away from the Marktplatz. Here's the most delectable breakfast in all of Europe. Great breads to choose from had me salivating – pretzel bread in miniature with flecks of salt or Basel brot a dark affair with a nutty flavor. Cheese from the Alps, from gruyere to emmentaler all rich and hearty. The thick creamy yoghurts, excellent cold cuts and cheeses, cereals, hot and cold and fruits make it worth your while to stay at this place. [more]
