Not exactly 4 stars, but ok
Hotel Sibir advertises itself as a 4-star hotel, but it’s far, far from that (3 stars at best). The rooms are clean but simple and while they seem to have been renovated fairly recently, they still aren’t up to European standards. Compared to other Russian hotels, Hotel Sibir is a good value: breakfast is included and some of the staff speaks a little English (a rarity in the city), but that’s about it. The location is not the best, but you should be ok if you don’t mind some walking or are willing to pay for an (overpriced) taxi. Despite its shortcomings, this is definitively the best hotel in the city, so make it a goal to stay here if you’re visiting Novosibirsk. [more] |

Standard Hotel in Novosibirsk
Hotel Sibir is a fairly standard hotel, with modern rooms that appear to have been recently renovated and which are all ensuite. The price is reasonable and includes breakfast, although we never got to sample it because our train left Novosibirsk at 3am. The hotel is further from the train station than the brightly-advertised Hotel Novosibirsk, but it is not far by taxi, and it is newer, cleaner, and a better value for the money than either the Station Hotel or the Novosibirsk Hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful, and a few spoke English as well, which was very helpful, particularly when we needed to explain why we would be leaving at 3 in the morning! The room was comfortable and the water was hot, and we couldn’t ask for much more. Novosibirsk is infamous for its poor accommodation, and we were pleased to find this hotel quite adequate to our needs. [more] |
