Spending the night in an old prison
Langholmen Hotel/Hostel/Conference Centre is near the center of Stockholm and is a legendary place to stay! From the train station, Fruängen on the red line, it is about a ten minute walk. You walk near a park and across a bridge with a pretty little view over the river and boats.
The door to the hotel opens on a sensor during the day, giving the place a slightly spooky feel. At night, you have to buzz in and show your key. The hotel used to be an old prison and the rooms are designed to look like cells, though more comfortable (I hope!). Our mirror was designed to look like a guillotine and our door looked like a door to a cell. It is definitely a cool and memorable vibe!
Bedding is available for rent at the front desk. Pillows are provided in the rooms. The staff spoke English as well as Swedish, which was good.
We got a double room - it had single bunk beds, a TV, small closet, desk, 2 chairs, bathroom with shower. It was perfect! They also included a couple of informational brochures on what to do in Stockholm. There is a little museum on the history of the building, but it has a small cost and we didn't have time.
Check out time was 10:00am, which was a little bit early for my taste, but it wasn't bad. I would definitely recommend this hotel!!! [more ]
