A Historical Hotel
The Caravelle in the centre of Ho Chi Minh City is one of my favourite hotels in SE Asia. I have been lucky enough to have stayed there plenty of times when I was working in Vietnam. It is a five star luxury hotel, but its not the luxury which draws me. Its the history of this hotel which featured so strongly in the later stages of the Vietnam war. It was from the rooftop of this building that the American diplomats made their escape by helicopter. It had half of its facade blown away by the Vietcong, and the whole place has an aura about it.
