Hotel Arts Barcelona: luxury on the waterfront
Like myself, I have met many travellers on cosmotourist that travel on a budget, sometimes because they have to, and other times because it is preferred that way. So please forgive me if I make the presumption that a stay at Hotel Arts Barcelona would be a financial stretch for most of us at an average of €320 per night in the summer season. Nevertheless, if you have managed to save the money to stay at such a luxurious hotel whilst visiting Barcelona, I can fully recommend it. The Hotel Arts Barcelona was built on the waterfront in preparation for hosting the 1992 Olympics and is part of a new neighbourhood in the city. In the area is of course the beach, plenty of restaurants and bars, and some modern-looking apartments that I believe were once used to house the Olympic athletes. The hotel has 42-storys, approximately 450-rooms and is part of the Ritz-Carlton chain. Treating yourself to a stay at this superb five-star hotel means that you will guarantee yourself one of the best rooms in the city. If you don't get a view over the sea, you will have one over the city and so in any case it is a win! The rooms are large and stylish and are decorated in lovely white, cream and neutral colours, as well as baths made from marble. Contemporary art hangs on the walls and reflects the culture and contemporary feel that you meet when walking around the city. The hotel provides every amenity you could need for a truly comfortable stay (restaurants, spas, in-room entertainment systems - and can a casino facility be added to this list?!). Nevertheless I think this can detract from the true feel of the city - authentic Catalonian life does not consist of sleeping in five-star hotels at € 300+ per night! The hotel offers a full breakfast buffet every morning with a large variety of international dishes which fully prepares you for your sight-seeing in Barcelona. Although I recommend this hotel for those on a honeymoon or those simply looking for a little luxury, I really wouldn't say it is worth paying out for on any other occasions, or simply for average travelling purposes. There are plenty of other hotels in the area for much less of a price that are still comfortable and pleasant to be in. But of course if it is really only five-star treatment that you are looking for, then the Hotel Arts Barcelona cannot be beaten. [more] |
