American Museum of Natural History - spend a day learn alot!

 stars
There are sooo many great museums to visit in New York I often forget where to start. I've been visiting this museum over and over again for years and always end up seeing something new - and No - it's not just a scene from "Night at The Museum"
This museum is in a great location with several other museums and things to do all around . Located right by Central Park West on 79th street - this is a great area that I usually end up walking around after and enjoying whatever I stumble upon.
The museum is a treat for an adult, a teenager, or even a little kid who may love the butterfy gardens, space shows, and all that there is to learn here.
The museum also has one of the largest and most impressive planeteriums I've ever seen - The Hayden Planeterium. The space exhibit is constantly updated with new videos that can be seen on IMAX. This feature is housed within The Rose Center of Earth and Space. Take a field trip to the moon or watch a collission occur in space.
The fossil halls, the wild ocean site, features on meteorites ---- there is definitly enough to do here to last you a full and long day! I definitly recommend this museum and love visiting every time!
As an additive bonus - the museum has a delicious cafeteria that, although on the expensive side, I would not hesitate to recommend! [more]

Free* Entertainment and a world class museum

*If you have enough gumption (which I didn't) to resist the pressure that the ticket agents will put on you to support the museum when you enter the building, then this could possibly be the best value in New York City.

A definite must see for those tourists and travellers who are educationally minded, the American Museum of Natural History in New York can take a full day to visit. My favorite sections were both the dinosaur exhibits as well as the life sized dioramas of animals, beautifully and thoughtfully detailed in their native environments.

Those who focus on learning while they travel could be preoccupied with this museum for hours and hours without getting bored.

It is seemingly endless and no expense was spared.

They try to get as much as $15 USD from you when you enter the building, but you can get in for free if you want, as mentioned. It just takes a bit of nerve to resist their judgemental eyes for those few awkward seconds before telling them you are there for educational purposes. [more]

The Natural History Museum has its own stop on the Subway. This museum is very large and informative. Before you go in, if you are a poor student like me, remember that the fee to get in is only a suggested donation. As poor students on a college trip me and my friends gathered all of our change together and managed to pay about $3 per person for entrance to the museum. Once inside, I had wished that I paid more for the entrance fee. The museum was extremely large. There is everything from dinosaurs to ancient history in this museum. The museum alone could consume your entire day. I would recommend deciding which exhibits are most interesting to you and visit those because seeing everything would take a long time; unless you want to just take a short look at everything there like I did. Even still, going quickly through the Museum, I needed hours just to see everything.

Make sure to plan a visit to the space exhibit. This features a long spiral walkway that presents the history of space as you walk up the winding pathway. My friend is very interested in space travel so about half of the pictures from our visit were taken in this.

On my second visit to the museum, I first went to the Museum’s website: http://www.amnh.org/museum/. Here they have a listing of everything in the Museum. This way I was better able to use my time and see the things that I was really interested, like the Dinosaurs! Rawr :). [more]
