For those art lovers who appreciate Late Gothic and Renaissance painting this is a must see. Perhaps the best kept secret on the Continent, the collection that is on display here is staggering. Walk through endless rooms in a new building that was not built till after the Berlin Wall came down and view the vast display of art that once belonged to Frederich the Great. The colection of Dutch and Italian Renaissance is superb. A great place to visit. [more]

Gemäldegalerie

The Gemäldegalerie is an extensive collection of the more internationally famous paintings in Berlin as opposed to the very German collection at the Alte Nationalgalerie. The space in which the paintings are displayed is modern but in rather conservative rooms. My favorites include several paintings by Botticelli, Vermeer, and Caravaggio. I find that although you’ll find several big names like the ones mentioned above and Rembrandt, you’ll have to walk past and cipher through a lot of boring portraits to find the gems so you have to be alert or you might walk past them. The museum also has a small exhibition space upstairs that mainly shows prints called the Kupferstichkabinett. The exhibitions in this room should always be seen on the free Thursdays (which is in the late afternoon and not after 6pm) since it is only a small room partitioned into two sections. I haven’t been to the museum café but it seems like a cafeteria for stuffy old people. [more]

Nefertiti's bust

 stars
Yes ! Yessssss ! The blue colour found on the sculpture , on her head, is absolutely phenomenal. Have you ever known that that blue colour contains some I-don’t-know-what kind of glamour powder? Maybe grounded glass or something else, which allows the sculpture to shine like a real celebrity it is…I really don’t know what exactly is that shining powder, I suggest you to ask a specialist, so I won’t make stupid assumptions in this article .
Well, the main idea is that I was absolutely mesmerized by the famous bust of Nefertiti. The historical character was indeed a very beautiful woman , with no doubt.
Drooling with my eyes on her own eye (yes, the bust has just one eye left unfortunately, but I think you know that already), I eventually moved forward, and I found myself captive in a sea of scrolls and other weird astonishing sculptures.
As I was strolling around, my eyes found an old head ready to leap out of the place was sitting in …I think it was the head of Anubis. [more]

Rosetta

But most exciting above all was the Rosetta Stone, lying big on a large table, keen to go at your feet. Totally innocent and amazed, I started to take zoom photos, believing that the large stone in my face was the real Rosetta Stone.
It came out to be a plastic version of it…
The guardian came slowly to my back and with a grave voice vanished any possible thoughts of touching the stone. I found myself in a miserable condition of not realizing why I couldn’t touch a Fake object made of PLASTIC ! Ok, you can tell the visitors that thing is a replica of the real stuff, but if it is like this, you still have to pretend it’s so ancient precious that you can’t touch it ???
Maybe I’m just being rude after all….anyway, the exhibition was extraordinary. With the focus point on Nefertiti’s bust.

P.S. I'm very Sorry I don't have any photos to show to you...I've just realized that I don't any photos of my trip to Germany on this laptop.! But I still hope they are on my computer back home in Romania... [more]

Summer day at Gemaldegalerie

Gemaldegalerie…….
Oh, what a extraordinary time to spend within some exhausting hallways beyond any outside traffic disturbances! As I was leaning on a crossbeam to see what’s happening down there on the stairs, a flyer came to my face.
Egypt Artifacts exhibition !

It was in Berlin, in the summer of 2005, and I found myself waiting straight in the line of Gemaldegalerie Museum to get in the halls of the Ancient Egypt Exhibition. What was waiting for me in the first hall was beyond description…(at least for me, for I’m crazy after Egypt Art): The Real Head of Nefertiti ! [more]

One of the things that I like the most when traveling is to visit art museums, I really love all types of painting styles and Berlin has one of the best art museums I have ever been to.
The collection of Gemäldgalerie has pieces o art from almost all major artistic movement. Also the paintings are very well divided into rooms according to their time beginning with the thirteenth century to the digital era. The museum wing that I liked the most was the fourteenth to sixteenth century Dutch and French exhibit, to be more accurate the Dutch Proverbs painting by Pieter Brueghel. The gallery opens from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 o’clock to 6:00pm. [more]
