Hundertwasserhaus
Hundertwasserhaus is an important landmark of the modern art in Vienna. It is a block, built by the famous architect Hundertwasser some time in the 20-th century. Like many other modernist's structures the edges of the building are not sharp or right-angeld, but somehow round-shaped. It is a really colourful building with every apartment in different colour. On the first floor there is a cafe for artists. It serves somehow as a center for modern art artists in Vienna and all around it there are artists selling souvenirs of the house or some other modern art objects. [more] |

Hundertwasserhaus
It's perhaps unusual to describe a building as having a great atmosphere when you only view it from the outside. Hundertwasserhaus, however, is an infectious riot of colour that convinces its visitors that they have discovered a playground. The design is fun and the ideas are engaging - the dome on the top signifies God in every household, the trees are planted on every level surface of the house as they are to reclaim the land the houses are built on, and the floors (even outside) undulate, as Hundertwasser thought the straight line was godless. It makes for an unusual complex, and though tourists can't get into the private building, the centre opposite gives an impression of what life is like inside. It also happens to house several shops and a food court. Tourist trap? Little bit. Fun? Undoubtedly. Check out the "toilet of modern art" in the basement. [more] |
