This should be the first stop for anyone looking for a historical trip in Israel. Caesarea was an old Roman city from the days of Herod the Great (2,000 years ago!). As you can imagine, it's full of Roman architecture including an impressive colosseum, bathhouses, and temples. All of which are not functioning now, of course, but still show amazing detail in architecture.
If you take your time at the site, it will take several hours to walk from one end to the other, but I wouldn't anticipate this being more than a half-day trip. In between sections of the ruins are restaurants and cafes along the Mediterranean Sea to enjoy if you feel a need to kick up your feet for a while. [more ]
