One of the best recital venues
Manchester Opera house was everything I hoped for and more. I had seen Cecilia Bartoli previously at a much larger venue and had been disappointed with the sound quality in the hall. In Manchester it was a different story. You could hear a pin drop in that hall, and Cecilia's voice carried beautifully all the way to the back of the room. I did not have to strain to hear, and I could relax and enjoy the evening. It's also a tremendously beautiful building, and I spent the intermission wandering around soaking it all in. I would love to go back and see another recital there. [more]
Manchester's Musical Scene: The Opera House Theatre
Outside of London, Manchester is perhaps the place to be for UK theatre-goers. With both the Palace and the Opera House offering a first-class experience, as well as many other smaller, thriving theatres that allow smaller productions to be put on.
The Opera House is located a bit out of the way from the actual centre of Manchester, but is only a ten minute walk from all three of the major train stations. Once near, it is hard to miss as the huge building dominates the area.
Inside, the décor is as luxurious as one could hope for, and all the staff are very friendly and welcoming, tending to any queries one may have.
Like the Palace, the Opera House puts on top quality shows on a regular basis and is well worth a visit. Because of the huge size of the place, it is not usually too difficult to get hold of a ticket. [more]
