Bremer City Hall (das Rathaus)
We drove to Bremen in winter, and the Christmas trees were every where. North part of Germany is completely different from west part or south part. In the west, especially in Aachen, they used a lot of materials from Rome when they built the Dom or the City Hall. But in Bremen, they used a lot of red bricks and bronze. It looks very “north” style. Bremer City Hall is one of the most important example architectures in Europe which has used Brick Gothic. It was built 1405-1409 and in July 2004, the building was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. As we entered into the city center, I was totally astonished by the City Hall size. It is really huge! The design of the City Hall rooftop is also different from most of City Halls in South/West Germany. [more] |
