An Urban Safari
I’m not a huge animal person, but I have to admit that I love the National Zoo. Like all of the Smithsonian museums, the zoo is free of charge and exceptionally well cared for. The zoo is a good size, with a wide variety of animals and habitats but definitely manageable in one afternoon. The pandas are a huge draw and considered an icon of the city. Personally, I’m a big fan of the seals and sea lions, which never seems to stop entertaining the crowds. The zoo is also in the process of building a new elephant exhibit, which should be pretty great. The signage is always very informative and entertaining. Every now and then there will be tips posted to help you take the best snapshots of the animals. How’s that for a memorable afternoon with your family? [more] |
