Frozen Rideau Falls
On the way from Gatineau to Ottawa, from distant I could always see this waterfall pouring down to the Ottawa River, at that time I thought it was from the water company or something like that. Never once I thought that the area would be for public nor that I would ever go there as I thought that would be just impossible to do. One day on the way home from Swiss Chalet, my husband took a different route and he parked our car at the neighborhood that I have never went to before. He said “let’s go” and I thought we were going to visit someone. We crossed the road, walked a bit, and headed to this park where everything is icy frozen and very slippery (yes the night before we had black ice storm). He pointed some benches covered with snow and ice and told me to go there as he said he wanted to take my picture; then he told me to look over stone side near the benches, at first I didn’t want to because it was just too, too slippery and I was scared until I saw FROZEN waterfall. It was very beautiful. This waterfall is known as Rideau Falls. I crawled slowly here and there to get a better view of the frozen waterfall. The view was just magnificent. The waterfall of course still active but the surroundings were frozen to ice already. The water that fell down to the Ottawa River also became ice; it was really nice that I can not really describe it well. We walked upon the small bridge and all I could see was the ice blocks on the bridge!! I tried to kick the ice but oh my, I hurt my foot instead! The ice blocks were glued to the bridge’s surface (as shown in the picture). If you want to see the frozen Rideau Falls (obviously when winter season is here), just go to Sussex Drive at Stanley Ave. It’s not hard to find, especially since there is the sign of Rideau Falls ;-) * moving this for the right mapping; original posting can be seen here http://www.cosmotourist.com/travel-tip/778/ottawa/frozen-rideau-falls/ [more] |
