Seville, Real Alcazar
This stunning fortress come palace in the centre of Seville is a real treat. Its impressive military façade hides a series of interlinked courtyards and building complexes in an Arabic style which have been developed over the years. The domed ceilings and mosaics in one part reminded me of a small scale Alhambra with stunning geometric courtyards and peaceful water features. The other part is Christian European with wooden ceilings, alters and grand paintings of military figures and is interesting to see the two side by side. There are beautiful gardens which you can explore, shady walkways, ornamental flower beds and fountains for cooling hot feet in the summer. They have a programme of summer concerts from late June to the beginning of September which are well worth a visit. [more] |
