Antwerpen cathedral
Antwerpen Cathedral is probably the most wonderful piece of Dutch/Flemish cathedral architecture I have ever seen. It was built for a really long time – around 2 centuries, starting in the middle of the 14-th. I think it has the highest tower in Belgium – 123 meters and this tower can be seen from anywhere in the city. Inside the cathedral there are many famous paintings by Rubens and other Flemish masters. Important tip - if you are planning to visit the Cathedral on Saturday - be very careful, on all Saturdays the cathedral closes at 3pm, I was unlucky and I had to wait until Sunday morning to visit it. Cathedral
We were asking ourselves what we could do while we waited for the check-in at the International Youth Hostel, so we decided to ask the staff there instead, as they would have probably known better. They told us to take a bus to the famous cathedral, as it would have closed later anyway. Apparently, it is only open at morning and early after-noon. We got to the Cathedral and were stunned to have been asked for an entrance fee. I don't really like catholic cathedrals and I'm not a catholic so I paid the sum slightly angry. But I understood why later. The cathedral is lovely, but it's very old and needs restoration. I really liked its interior and I didn't regret having paid the fee in the end. You should see it!
