Whitsunday sailing - decisions before hand
There are many providers that offer sailing tours of the Whitsundays and you have to be careful to pick one that suits your needs. Even just within budget-offerings you can get everything from a cheap couple of days on a crammed boat full of partying young backpackers to the trip of several days on a small boat with only a handful of people. We chose something in between and ended up with a 3 day/2night trip on the “Waltzing Matilda”, very Australian. [more] |

On the trip
Apart from the memorable and beautiful Whitehaven beach we made several stops for snorkelling and swimming on the Great Barrier Reef. There was snorkelling equipment for everyone and it was great to just jump into the blue water and float around for half an hour or so watching the colorful world of fish and corals underneath before getting back on board. On board the Waltzing Matilda
The “Waltzing Matilda” was a relatively small boat with a crew consisting of a captain and a hostess who prepared a delicious dinner every night and eight passengers. If you wanted, you could help out with the sailing a little bit but most of the time we were happy just relaxing and enjoying the wind in our hair and the smell of salt in the air. The ship had a large deck and cozy cabins – ours had a skylight so you could watch the stars at night – wonderful! [more] |

A perfect white beach
One of my all-time favorite places in the world are the Whitsundays, or, more specifically, Whitehaven beach. As the name suggests, the soft sand on Whitehaven beach is almost white set against the azure blue of the ocean and the sky. With the sand between your toes, the sun on your back and the eyes on the horizon time stands still and you forget everything else for a while. [more] |
