Steyr castle
The castle of Steyr is a big triangular late medieval castle on a hill above the confluence of the rivers Steyr and Enns. It is called Lambertschloss, because it belonged to the family Lambert for more than 3 centuries (17-20 ct.) and their coat of arms can be seen over the main portal to the castle. The building is, however much older than the family – it was built in the early medieval centuries. In the small moat there are several Capricorns living, probably this is some old tradition (like the bears in Bern or Cesky Krumlov). The inner courtyard is very nice and has a nice fountain. Around the castle and above the river there is a nice promenade. [more] |
