Chilling by the Harbourfront
The Harbourfront is a spectacular place to visit and a tourist and local hotspot. The Harbourfront includes the area surrounding the Harbourfront Centre (which is itself a performing arts building that hosts many performances/events throughout the year). The best part is, it is right downtown Toronto. I live downtown and it is really easy to get to – just a subway ride to Union station, and a 5 minute streetcar ride. Last year I visited the new man-made beach at the Harbourfront – not that big, but clean and shaded by huge yellow umbrellas, it almost looks animated. The best part about the Harbourfront is the free summer festivals that take place there every weekend in the summer. I have been to a few, including the Jazz festival, with live performances from some great musicians at the main stage. The stage is right near the water, and there is a lovely boardwalk that I like to walk down. The seabreeze and friendly atmosphere make it really worthwhile. During the festivals, they have many ethnic food booths setup – variety at an affordable price. I really liked the Indian booth as they give great combos with rice, vegetables, curries and samosas. Also, you can get a great view of the CN tower right from the Harbourfront! I was delighted last summer 2007, when I was at the Jazz festival – it was getting dark and the CN tower lit up and started changing colours! It reminded me of the horse of the different colours from the Wizard of Oz! For more details visit http://www.torontoharbour.com [more] |
