Buddenturm
The Buddenturm is the only remaining tower of Münster´s once quite mighty town fortifications. If you know anything about the old city wall, which the Buddenturm was part of, you can easily figure out where the tower is located: right smack on the promenade. It is also called the powder tower (Pulverturm), because of its former purpose of gun powder storage. It was built in 1150 and grew taller over time and once served as a prison. After World War II it was restored, now measuring 30m in height, and just a few years ago it got a fresh coat of paint, ridding it of its old, grey outfit. Münzstr/Am Kreuztor [more] |
