Birmingham Sea Life Centre

It is unusual for a city not near the coast to have a sea life centre. It is located in the newly redeveloped Brindley Place, by the canals, ICC & NIA and is a 15mins walk to new Street station. There is also parking nearby.

I’d say you need to leave three hours to go round the aquarium. It is been well landscaped and designed and has interactive quizzes for kids, touch screen films and info boards. There are sections devoted to sea-horses, sea-turtles, jellyfish and otters and it is also good for sharks and rays. There is also a Nemo section based on the film. There are short 5-10mins talks about the fish at certain times and there is a touch pool for starfish and crabs. New this year is a 4D cinema – a planet earth 3D film showing life beneath the oceans with added effects to enhance the experience.

There is also a café onsite and a shop with an excellent range of marine cuddly toys.

However it was £17 for an adult which I felt was very expensive. There are many 2 for 1 vouchers that exist and various sea life centre promotions so I’d definitely make use of one of those if you want to go. [more]

National Sea Life Centre, Birmingham, is just one of the many Sea Life centres that are located throughout the UK. I have been to the one in Birmingham, with my Grandson.
There are a lot of different displays, and a tunnel to walk through, with one million litres of water above you!
There are starfish, seahorses, sharks and rays, in fact, so many different fishes, that I did not know existed. They also have 2 giant sea turtles.
The staff do talks about the species and they have feeding times to watch. There is also a touch pool, where you are encouraged to touch some of the fish.
The staff are helpful and friendly and the fishes appear to be well cared for.
This is a very good attraction to visit, when in Birmingham. [more]
