Weisman Art Museum
Love it or hate it, the Weisman Art Museum is better known for its architectural design than its collection. Some people don't like it because it looks like a bizarre collection of cheap aluminum. I personally have come to appreciate it for the fact that it resembles a waterfall (as it's mean to). Regardless, it's certainly worth a look, even if you're only driving past.
As for the interior, it's mostly a collection of paintings as odd as the museum's construction. One that I found interesting was a perspective painting of hundreds of chickens in cages, and there are a few sculptures as well. If you see one exhibit, make sure to check out the room that resembles as a series of apartments. If nothing else, it is extremely thought-provoking.
The best news of all about the Weisman Art Museum? Strange as it looks like on the outside, attendance is completely free. Good luck finding a parking spot on the University campus though. Your best bet is the River Road Parking Garage. It's expensive, but it's far better than worrying about finding a spot at a parking meter. Or parking in Dinkytown and walking. [more ]
