The weather on our last day is horrible. It is pouring down heavily and it is cold. Together with a French girl we are the only people who decided to walk. Although the terrain is easy, this is the hardest day, maybe due to the fact that the walk along the lake is relatively boring in comparison....

We were hoping to climb up to the Labyrinth & Acropolis, but we soon realize that we are not going to see anything up there, as the weather is getting worse again, and decide to turn around. We follow the same way back to the main track and soon reach the small and dark Narcissus Hut close to...

The next morning as we start out from Kia Ora Hut, the snow is mostly gone and the day starts with a sky which is at least part blue. We actually get some good views of Ferguson and D’Alton Falls and later Falling Mountain and the Traveller Range as we walk through open eucalypt forest for a...

The following day’s highlight was supposed to be a climb up Mt. Ossa with impressive views across the south of the park. But there is no way. Impressive it is, even on the first stretch, and although we do attempt it at first, we soon realize the climb is much too dangerous as the rocks become...

As we wake up the next morning everything is white. It is amazing. I am the first to step through the virgin white on my way to the outhouse. Everything is calm and bright. Then I step into my shoes, barely dried next to the oven and reality dawns on me. Half an hour later, frozen, wet,...

In the morning a ranger tells us that a Cold Front is approaching and we are to hurry if we want to make it to Windermere Hut before the snow sets in. Luckily, this is one of the shortest sections of the walk. The walk over open alpine moors at a high elevation, where we are exposed to the...

We start into the track at Ronny Creek Carpark and almost straight away, the views are breathtaking. If it continues like this, I can only try to imagine. After a short but steep climb, during which I need to tell myself that most of the weight on my back will be eaten a few days from now, we...

We have decided to „do“ the Overland Track, and we are starting out in late March. In this season we already have to rely on good luck to finish the track without too much rain. At the visitor’s center, where we sign that we pick up our passes, you can also get some last-minute equipment in...

Since Cradle Mountain Campground is right at the entrance of Cradle Mountain/Lake St.Clair National Park, it is highly frequented and with 30 Dollars per night also quite expensive. The rugged-looking campsite, however, is worth its price. The large wooden hut-style buildings that harbor...
